Is The Love Of God Unconditional?

It’s a fair question and one that a lot of people might find asking themselves. As human beings we are in fact conditional entities. It’s hard for us to continue to feel good will towards a individual if we have been violated or feel insulted and disrespected. So the thought of any kind of love being unconditional is a foreign concept to us mentally.

The best example that we can relate to is the love we have for our children. In most cases it is in fact unconditional. We birth them, raise them, watch them make mistakes and at times witness them disrespect and insult us. But our love for them never waivers. The same type of bond can be related to God. We are in fact in His image, He birthed us and in the same right loves us unconditionally.

Gods unconditional love

God's Unconditional Love In Scripture

The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jeremiah 31:3

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1

As we can see from the scripture, God’s love is beyond our comprehension and God demonstrates that eternal love often. The Bible is filled with amazing examples of how He loves us and the extent of which He will go to show His love.

When God brought His only son into this world He had a purpose. Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice to demonstrate God’s love and when He died on the cross that love was proven as we can see in John 3:16.

God's Love And Expectations

Something that we must keep in mind though, is that even though God’s love is unconditional, He also holds us to a standard and has expectations for how we live and treat others. God has given us the incredible blessing of free will, He will never force us to do anything. But if we stray from the path of righteousness and away from His plan and expectations, then of course it would be expected that we would not receive the ultimate blessing of eternal life along His side.
